The Amazing South Coast

People travel for all kinds of reasons, Some adventure, some relax, some experience new things or some just to get away for a change a scene. For me, Albany was all about exploring and a much needed switch off time.

Before Albany, I couldn’t remember the last time I went on a holiday and I remember before leaving people were asking me if I was going to have a relaxing holiday. For someone who doesn’t sit still for too long, my version of relaxing I knew was going to be a lot different then the normal.

The last time I visited Albany would have been over 15 years ago on a family camping trip, so this week away was like I was visiting it for the first time. I left with vivid memories of the beautiful coastline of WA. The white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and coastline takes your breath away.

Albany is definitely an adventure playground. We rode, hiked, trail run, swam in the coastline of The Amazing South Coast region. It is the perfect way to switch off and relax by exploring somewhere different.

For those who love hiking or trail running, I would highly recommend the Bold Head walk. Albany is famous for its natural bridge and blow holes in the Torndirrup National Park, but when you travel further along the road you will see some sign posts for this walk. As you climb up and down, a gentle breeze in your hair and having the place mostly to yourself except for passing a few people along the way, it will take your breath away. Walking up these old wooden steps or along the sandy paths as the greyish clouds with the sun beaming through lit up the coastline, it was time to let go all the stress. It is also the perfect spot to take a picnic to watch the world go by as you soak up the warmth on the rocks once you reach the end of the walk. My tip of advice though, go early in the day as it does get hot out there.

On the way back in your car, you will discover dirt road sign posted to mistaken Island. STOP HERE!! You will only need to share the beach with a few others (well unless I have just inspired everyone to go there now). There is a lovely long stretch of beach just calling your name for you to enjoy, especially in the morning before the winds come in.

Albany is really a natures playground. From riding from Middleton Beach to Emu point, walking along Wind Mills and the Bibblumum track, exploring Mt Clarence, trail running along the river or just relaxing at the secluded beaches. There is so many hidden gems and will cater for everyone. You just need to get off the beaten track and explore. There is a reason they often say climb a mountain when you need clarity. Okay, it might of not have been a mountain but Albany has its fair share of hills!

Albany will be the perfect spot to get out and be among nature and get your “ahh ha “ moment. The trip was a big reminder to continue to have fun and you need to get out and live each day! It may have been a 4 hour drive but in WA sense, it’s not far. Albany, I will be back soon!
