Amongst the Karri Trees in Pemberton

Are you needing inspiration for your next road trip? Time to head down to the southern Forrests to explore this beauitul spot surrounded by Karri trees, lots of twist and turns on the trails and somewhere to stargaze on a very clear, starry night sky.

Only three hours and 45min from Perth, this little town has so much to offer for those adventure seeking souls. Here are my favourite parts of the area to enjoy:

TRAIL RUNNING, HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING GALORE:

So many to choose from it’s hard to narrow it down to a few favourite tracks.

The swimming pool is a natural pool just located walking distance from town and is nestled on the Lefroy Brook and is perfect for a BBQ picnic or swim. There is a network of trails that start from the pool. Just be mindful, many of these tracks around the swimming pool are also used for mountain biking ( on a lot of fun single tracks), these are shared paths, to keep an eye out for a mountain bike. The Bibblumun track starts from the swimming pool too.

The other options include Big Brook Dam, which has a 4km loop around the outside of the dam. This is also wheelchair and stroller friendly. If you are looking for something longer, there is the Rainbow Trail that you can link into this trail and also link it in with the swimming pool trail network.

CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE TREES:

Pemberton is home to two very tall trees that you can climb so you can experience the feeling of having a birds eye view over the top of the trees. These trees used to be used as fire lookouts from 1937- 1952. The taller and quieter of the two trees is The Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree in the Warren National Park, which is a 15 minute drive from the Pemberton township. At 65m above the ground, it is the tallest with a 360-degree view of old growth Karri forest. The view from the top is incredible! So definately worth facing your fears and climbing up to the top. If you are finding it hard, just go slowly and keep looking ahead, not down.

The other more popular tree is the Glouster Tree only 2km from town. This one is 53m tall and also is connected to a lot of walking trails for you to explore the area. Please note though, this tree can get busy.

BEEDELUP FALLS:

During winter, spring or after a recent rainfall, I could not recommend Beedelup Falls highly enough. It is beautiful. We started off just wanting to look at the falls. As we crossed the top bridge, we found a track heading off to the right, which we decided to explore. This path lead us past beautiful flowers in bloom, hollow giant tingle trees and finally to the Karri Valley Resort lake. Instead of doing the whole loop, we back tracked so we could go over the swinging bridge back at the falls.

LASTLY… TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK UP

Amongst the tall buildings and the hustle and bustle of city life, we don’t often get a chance to stop and look up.

Find yourself a space that is wide open and I encourge you to star gaze. The sky is so clear and when you stop, look up it is amazing to see so many stars shining bright.

NEEDING HELP WITH TRAIL ROUTES?

Head over to All trails, Pemberton tourism or WA Trails for more information on route ideas. All trails has an opportunity to plan your own routes, which can help if you want to put a few trails together which you can follow along in the app ( or download to a gpx tracker).

Have fun exploring Pemberton.
